Armour care

A Few Words on Armour Care

All mild steel armour is going to rust, so please keep that in mind. To help prevent that you can store your mild steel in a oiled bag or wipe it down with a lightly oil cloth after use. It will help slow it down. Do not leave mild steel armour in a cloth bag on the ground. It will wick up the moisture and make a great environment for rust.

On the antique, aged patina type look do not use any sort of abrasive to remove tape marks. The coloring is a surface treatment like gun bluing and will come of if scrubbed. I recommend cleaning tape of any finish with acetone.

If you have an antiqued helmet do not use Brasso or any sort of polish that has acid in it. Most of them do and it will quickly remove any finish/ patina.  I recommend a fine steel wool or really old green scrubby on the brass or copper to clean and shine it up.

Painted grills can be touched up with spray paint. Pick your color, I tend to use black.

Leather goods can be cleaned with a leather cleaner and conditioner or really mild soap. Wipe off with a damp cloth. If you soak it don't leave it in the sun. I personally prefer to use leather cleaner and conditioner.

Remember if you abuse it it wont last.
